Rainy Season by Marc Cohn
This album is a quiet classic of 1990s "adult" rock, a genre which I have grown to appreciate over the years. It is a thoughtful and contemplative song cycle with a deep sense of longing that is the hallmark of Marc Cohn's earlier material. "Paper Walls" is my favorite track here, presenting an interesting sketch of a narrator who finds just a bit too much similarity between his own life experiences and those of his hotel neighbors. It's pretty obvious that Marc Cohn was going through some personal turmoil at this time in his life, if the lyrics and overall themes are to be taken as being even partially autobiographical. Whether or not this was the case, the songs are strong enough to merit many visits. I have come to enjoy this one more and more the older I get.
