Young Gravity is an album whose lyrical depth is offset by its unassuming encroachment on the ears. Peter Walker's 11 tracks of love, loss, hope and wandering are full of metaphor, character and fulfilled emptiness. After starting with early demos, Walker worked with producers Aaron Espinoza (Earlimart) and Jim Fairchild (Grandaddy) to tease the beautifully translucent narrative from Walker's past and present. Standout tracks include Flagship, which has a Tom Petty feel to it, and 39 Stars, which a great vocal lick - 39 Stars in the sky tonight with that Billy Corgan meets Neil Young strained vocal repetition that's inescapable long after the final chorus. The lyrics, however, tell the story of the death of a young friend and finding your bearings. While title track speaks to the weights upon young people these days, Peter Walker has given us moon boots of hope.
